How the tax is worked out

  1. Sale amount = units × selling price.
  2. Subtract broker commission, SEBON fee and DP charge.
  3. Subtract your cost: units × WACC. What is left is the taxable gain.
  4. Capital gains tax = gain × 7.5% or 10%. There is no tax on a loss.
  5. You receive the sale amount minus all charges and the tax.

How much is broker commission in Nepal?
Broker commission on NEPSE equity trades is 0.36% up to Rs 50,000, 0.33% up to Rs 5 lakh, 0.31% up to Rs 20 lakh, 0.27% up to Rs 1 crore and 0.24% above that, with a minimum of Rs 10. The slab rate applies to the whole amount.
What is the capital gains tax on shares in Nepal?
Under the Finance Act for FY 2083/84 (effective Shrawan 1, 2083), individual investors pay 7.5% CGT on gains from shares held more than 365 days and 10% on shares held 365 days or less. The tax is charged on the gain after sale charges and your WACC.
What are the SEBON fee and DP charge?
The SEBON fee is 0.015% of the trade amount, and the DP charge is Rs 25 per company per settlement day. Both buyers and sellers pay them.
