Share buying and selling charges in Nepal, explained

Broker commission slabs, the SEBON fee, the DP charge and capital gains tax: what you really pay when you buy or sell shares on NEPSE, with a worked example.

Four costs on a secondary market trade

A share's price times the units is never exactly what you pay or receive. On NEPSE, a buyer and a seller each pay broker commission, the SEBON fee and a DP charge. A seller with a profit also pays capital gains tax.

  • Broker commission: a percentage of the trade amount set by slab, with a Rs 10 minimum.
  • SEBON fee: 0.015% of the trade amount.
  • DP charge: Rs 25 per company per settlement day.
  • Capital gains tax: on the profit when you sell, 7.5% if you held the shares more than 365 days and 10% if you held them 365 days or less (individual investors).

Broker commission slabs

The rate for the slab applies to the whole trade amount, not just the part inside the slab.

  • Up to Rs 50,000: 0.36%
  • Rs 50,001 to Rs 5,00,000: 0.33%
  • Rs 5,00,001 to Rs 20,00,000: 0.31%
  • Rs 20,00,001 to Rs 1,00,00,000: 0.27%
  • Above Rs 1,00,00,000: 0.24%

Worked example: buying 100 shares at Rs 500

  • Trade amount: 100 × Rs 500 = Rs 50,000.
  • Broker commission at 0.36%: Rs 180.
  • SEBON fee at 0.015%: Rs 7.50.
  • DP charge: Rs 25.
  • Total cost: Rs 50,212.50, or Rs 502.13 per share. That per-share figure, not Rs 500, is your cost basis.

Selling, and why WACC matters

When you sell, the same commission, SEBON fee and DP charge come off the sale amount. Capital gains tax is then charged on the gain: what you receive after those charges, minus your weighted average cost (WACC) for the units sold. A wrong WACC means a wrong tax figure, which is why MeroShare asks you to confirm your purchase source.

Rates change

These are the rates the SajiloShare app uses as of September 2026. SEBON and the government revise them from time to time, and your broker's contract note is always the final word.

Do all of this in one app

SajiloShare stores each MeroShare account once, applies for all of them in one run, checks every result together and shows your portfolio after charges and tax. Free on Android and iPhone.
